How to Get to Peleș Castle from Bucharest
Train, car and day tours to Sinaia — then the walk up through the park to the castle gate.
Peleș Castle sits above Sinaia, a mountain town about 124 km north of Bucharest on the main line to Brașov. The journey has two parts: get to Sinaia, then get up to the castle on its forested slope. Here are the options for both, from either city.
From Bucharest or Brașov to Sinaia
By train is easiest. From Bucharest's Gara de Nord, direct trains to Sinaia run roughly every 30–60 minutes and take about 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 50 minutes; faster InterRegio services cost a little more than the slow Regio trains. From Brașov, Sinaia is about an hour away by frequent direct trains. Sinaia is on the main Bucharest–Brașov line, so it's an easy stop from either direction.
By car, it's a scenic drive up the Prahova Valley on the DN1 — about two to two and a half hours from Bucharest depending on traffic, which can be heavy on summer weekends.
From Sinaia station up to the castle
From the train station it is a 25–35 minute walk uphill through the town and the castle park, passing the 17th-century Sinaia Monastery on the way — pretty, but steep the whole way. If you'd rather not climb, a taxi or ride-hail from the station is short and cheap.
Drivers park in the lots below the castle (a small day fee) and walk the last 10–15 minutes through the forest, as the final approach is closed to traffic. There's no way to drive right up to the entrance.
Day tours and making a day of it
Organised day tours from Bucharest often pair Peleș with Bran Castle (the 'Dracula' castle) and remove the train-and-walk logistics, though you trade flexibility for convenience. If you travel independently, a reserved timed ticket means you arrive to a guaranteed entry slot rather than gambling on day-of availability.
With a little more time, add the neighbouring Pelișor castle in the same park, the Sinaia Monastery, or the Sinaia gondola up into the Bucegi Mountains for a half-day in the hills.
